Tucked naturally into the streetscape of Honcho in Kawaguchi, Hogetsudo draws many visitors for one defining specialty: its signature raisin bread. A generous swirl of raisins is rolled tightly into the soft, tender dough, lending each loaf a surprisingly hefty weight in hand. You can pull it apart warm straight from the oven, though its light crumb also keeps remarkably well to enjoy the following day at home.

Alongside the raisin loaves, the display cases feature an array of approachable, unpretentious savory and sweet buns. The curry bun is finished with a satisfyingly crisp exterior and comes in two heat levels: a mild, mellow recipe and a pleasantly spiced medium-hot version.
